more books to read?
Did I want to read a book called Corpse at St. Andrew's? Like Scotland? The phrase written on the back of a DDs receipt would suggest I did...will need to investigate further. AFTER cleaning the apartment, bah. I could be blogging or watching House, or reading The Rose Grower, but apparently I will have a random staying at my place tomorrow night, so I need to clean. Again, BAH. Thank goodness for the Black Eyed Peas station on Pandora right now...briefly, though - The Rose Grower, by Michelle de Kretser, is surprisingly engaging. Started it yesterday, liking it a lot. Gave up on La Salle, for now - style is weird, def. too much for a exhausted/sore Friday last week! Her Fearful Symmetry was perfect for post-electrolysis hunkering down though. Glad I finally read it, and totally worth what I paid (which was 50% off the hardcover price to be fair though).

Reading list
I just got this review from the New York Times in my inbox, and I think I will try to check this book out at some point - although hopefully after it's in the library! I am worried I have some sort of weird depression that manifests itself through compulsive book buying. I picked up a book off the table in front of the Harvard Bookstore on my way to class yesterday, even though I have a mountain of books at home, and haven't even gotten Her Fearful Symmetry

Update
I think in a past post I mentioned I wanted to read The Dead Travel Fast
by Deanna Raybourn, thinking it would be stupid, but fun. Well, half right: it was definitely stupid. Not a total waste, I suppose, since I did come across a couple words I need to look up, but definitely thinking now about the couple of coffees I could have gotten for the price of the book.
On the bright side, when I was headed to the register with the book I spotted Her Fearful Symmetry
by Audrey Niffenegger, which I have been interested in reading, but was unwilling to pay full hardcover price for, and was stuck pretty far down on a list at the library - but there it was, with a 50% off sticker, and I got an additional 10% with my Barnes & Noble membership, so I picked it up. Of course, I have a stack of library books literally a foot high piled up on the floor in front of my fireplace, so I may not get to it until the thing's in paperback anyhow, but what the hell.
Also read that Regency mystery, When Gods Die
, by C.S. Harris over the weekend - it was fine, nothing exciting, and I think I liked the first one better, but I barely remember it, so who knows. And some dreadful book about New Netherland, and a murder, and some random other stuff...The Dutchman's Dilemma
, maybe? Okay, maybe not dreadful, but boring. Certainly will not be returning to that author, whoever it is, that is for d**m sure, but I will probably read another Harris at some point if I need a book for the busride home from work or something.
Happily ensconced in The Big Over Easy from Jasper Fforde's "Nursery Crimes" series right now - maybe too happily, as I snuggled down into my covers with it last night when I should have been doing my homework. It's not the Thursday Next series, but I still think I just love anything Fforde does...how many books make you giggle, and laugh out loud?
